The Red Vase 20"x24" oil on linen 2012
Jack Montmeat a 2009 Stobart Foundation grant recipient began drawing at an early age. Growing up in Old Lyme, CT, he attended classes at the Lyme Academy of Fine Arts and was inspired by the paintings of the Old Lyme Impressionists like Childe Hassam, Willard Metcalf, and Frank Dumond. While attending the Columbus College of Art and Design in Ohio on a scholarship Jack was able to also study abroad in Florence and Paris. Jack credits the many years of drawing and painting models in monitored classes, at the Lyme Art Association, with honing his realist skills. He was the recipient of three Elizabeth Greenshields Foundation Grants, a Ludwig Volgelstein Foundation Grant, and a George Sugarman Foundation Grant.
The Stobart Foundation Grant enabled him to revisit Paris and independently study in the museums. Many of the paintings done on his Paris trip can be viewed on his blog. Maintaining a studio in East Lyme, Jack paints portrait commissions, still-lifes, and landscapes. He also teaches drawing at the Lyme Art Association and the Mystic Art Association. Additional information about Jack and his paintings can be found on his web site.
